Senior Director, Business Development

Satellite Company

This is a Full-time position in Reston, VA posted December 6, 2017.


• A Masters Degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering, National Security Policy, Military Arts & Sciences, or 10+ years of satellite experience
• Experience supporting U.S. Government commercial satellite communications requirements
• Extensive knowledge of Combatant Command operations and mission applications, employment of satellite communications capabilities, and U.S. Government acquisition and procurement process
• U.S. military, Government, or industry experience working with COCOMs and Services
• Knowledge of the O3b Networks system and its implementation
• Ability to identify, analyze, segment, target and win business opportunities for satellite services
• Ability to develop a strategic plan for capturing Air Mobility programs, acquire new business, and manage existing accounts to increase revenue and broaden the company’s business
• Extensive knowledge of O3b Networks and Maritime users
• Extensive knowledge of the technology needs, market trends, and procurement practices of COCOMs, and other U.S. military and civilian agencies
• Extensive knowledge of Air Mobility programs with specific emphasis on UAS/UAVs
• Ability to identify COCOMs and other U.S. military/civilian agencies requirements, develop/shape applicable satellite fleet, end-to-end solutions, and deliver programs, services/product offerings
• Experience developing and managing a robust pipeline of business opportunities
• Proven ability to employ creative, innovative and novel approaches for addressing/overcoming challenges facing U.S. Government end-users for satellite communications
• Experience writing/managing winning proposals for U.S. Government/commercial customers, to include complex and large end-to-end satellite communications programs
• Experience creating strategic teaming relationships with industry partners
• Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations and other U.S. Government contracting regulations, providing the ability to proactively and effectively negotiate and win contracts
• Ability to anticipate customer needs and satellite operational issues, assess their implications, determine their impact and develop appropriate action plans
• Excellent verbal/written skills (Shipley proposal trained) with outstanding presentation skills
• Ability to travel 25% of the time


• Executes Company business development plan and key portfolio engagement plans
• Develops satellite fleet and end-to-end solutions to meet customer requirements
• Develops account plans for strategic programs consistent with business goals
• Provides effective account management oversight to strategic customers
• Leads proposal efforts and write technical proposals in response to Government satellite fleet
• Manages customer engagements to collect business intelligence and shape future opportunities
• Participates in regular reviews of the business development team – updates senior leadership
• Assists/proposes introduction of new fleet assets, products, services that will meet customer needs
• Establishes/maintains effective client relationships, enabling the company to anticipate/resolve potential problems and deliver solutions for customer challenges and satellite solutions
• Gathers/disseminates business intelligence to provide identification of new business opportunities
• Conducts presentations, demonstrations and site visits to inform client of value proposition
• Identifies opportunities, understands requirements/develops responses to RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs
• Organizes/executes meetings with Combatant Command/customers in Government and industry
• Applies emerging technology and products into practical applications utilizing commercial satellites to meet U.S. Government requirements
• Assists where appropriate, and proposes the introduction of new fleet assets, products, and service offerings that will meet the needs our U.S. Government customers
• Provides strategic planning and analytic inputs for the corporate strategic growth plan
• Develops win strategies for specific business opportunities and assembles winning teams that complement capabilities and share similar business philosophies
• Manages a pipeline of business opportunities
• Manages subcontractors, consultants, and other team members during the capture/proposal effort
